Blackened Tilapia Tacos with Avocado Goddess Sauce

I love a good fish taco! I find myself always ordering them off the menu if I’m out to dinner. There is something fresh and bright about fish tacos. The flavor combinations and the light, white fish is a perfect marriage nestled in a charred corn tortilla. This recipe is ridiculously easy! I toss together a few spices to make my blackened seasoning and broil the fish for 7 minutes. It comes out tender and oh so flaky. I whip up a super yum spicy, avocado sauce to drizzle on the tacos and top with a quick slaw to give it some nice crunch. These would be a great idea to entertain with as you can create a build your own style dinner. Serve with some fresh lime wedges for that perfect finishing touch!

  • 2 tsp 2 Brown Sugar

  • 2 tsp 2 Oregano

  • 1 tsp 1 Cumin

  • 1 tsp 1 Garlic Powder

  • 1 tsp 1 Onion Powder

  • 1 tsp 1 Salt

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 Black Pepper

  • 4 4 Tilapia Filets

  • 1 Tbsp 1 Avocado or Olive Oil to Brush on Fish

  • *For the Avocado Goddess Sauce*

  • 1 cup 1 Non Fat Greek Yogurt

  • 1/2 1/2 Large Avocado

  • 3/4 cup 3/4 Cilantro

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 Italian Parsley

  • 1 1 Jalapeño (remove seeds to control heat)

  • 2-4 Tbsp 2-4 Olive Oil

  • 1 1 Large Lime Juiced

  • Salt to taste

  • *For the toppings*

  • 1 1 Bag of ready made slaw

  • 3-4 3-4 Radishes, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 Cilantro

  • Cotija Cheese (Optional)

  • Stack of Corn Tortillas

  • Lime Wedges for topping

Directions

  • To begin, preheat your broiler on high and ensure your oven rack is raised. Mix your spices in a prep jar. Brush oil on your fish and sprinkle spices on fish
  • Place fish under broiler and broil on first side for 4 minutes. Remove, flip and sprinkle blackening spices on the back side. Place back in the oven and broil for 3 minutes until fish is opaque and flakes with a fork
  • While fish is broiling, place ingredients for avocado goddess sauce in a high powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Prepare your toppings and build your tacos!
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • I love using my gas stove to char my corn tortillas. Just lay your tortillas directly on the burner at medium heat and char on each side until warmed through.
  • You can prep early by making your avocado goddess sauce and storing in the fridge. You can also marinate your fish in the fridge for 30 minutes before broiling to allow your blackening spices to penetrate the fish for optimum flavor.
